History shaping our future

Our History

The Burhill Estate, home to Burhill Golf Club has an intriguing history. The stunning mansion that we see today has had its share of ups and downs, been residence for several important and affluent individuals and the setting for some incredible historical achievements. Our story started in 1888 when Sir Edward Cecil Guinness purchased the property from Samuel Bircham. Fast forward to 1940 and the mansion house had been requisitioned by The Ministry  of Aircraft Production where Barnes Wallis created the ‘Bouncing Bomb’.
